International Women's Day
Strength and Advocacy for Change:
International Women's Day 2025 is celebrated under the theme "Strength and Advocacy,"
highlighting the resilience and unwavering commitment of women worldwide in championing
their rights and equality. This theme underscores the critical role of advocacy in
dismantling
systemic barriers and advancing gender parity across all sectors. It calls for collective
action to
accelerate progress toward a more equitable and inclusive society, emphasizing the
power of
women's voices in driving meaningful change. Source.
Historical Milestone: The Seneca Falls Convention:
In 1848, the Seneca Falls Convention marked a pivotal moment in the women's rights
movement. Held in New York, it was the first convention dedicated exclusively to discussing
women's rights and suffrage. Organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott,
the
convention produced the "Declaration of Sentiments," a document demanding equal rights
for women, including the right to vote. This event ignited a nationwide movement,
laying the
foundation for future advocacy and legislative changes aimed at achieving gender equality.

Women in the Energy Industry
Woman-identifying workers make up about a quarter of the workforce in the energy and power sectors. There is a similar pay discrepancy between genders in the renewable energy field, including the solar and wind sectors. In 2019, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) reported women made up only 32% of the renewable energy workforce, with the bulk of their roles in administrative positions. While this is more favorable than the gender gap in the total energy industry (where women only account for 25% of the workforce), significant imbalances remain.
