Global Engagement Council
Representatives from the academic community and key campus constituents work together to provide a central communication point regarding campus-wide global engagement and assist with identification of future directions for international initiatives.
Faculty Visiting Scholars (J-1/DS-2019)
Faculty wishing to host academic scholars from overseas to collaborate on research, teach courses, guest lecture, or a combination thereof, are encouraged to review details on the "Hosting a Visiting Scholar" webpage.
Faculty Global Engagement Travel Grants
Grants are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Faculty interested in supporting campus internationalization efforts by strengthening global dimensions into their research, curriculum, and professional experience, are eligible to apply for mini-grant funding. Priority consideration is given to faculty who plan to develop short-term faculty-led programs. Contact global@callutheran.edu for details.
Short-Term Study Abroad Courses
Notification of interest is due by February for implementation the following spring.
The CGE’s Office of Education Abroad works with faculty to develop and implement short-term, credit-bearing study abroad experiences for undergraduate and graduate programs. Visit the "Faculty-led Study Abroad" webpage.
Education Abroad/Away Program Opportunities
In addition to traditional faculty-led programs, the Office of Education Abroad supports the monitoring and safety review of non-credit programs, such as overseas clubs/organization field trips, conference attendance, alternative breaks, independent research, etc. If advising students who plan to go overseas in a capacity connected to Cal Lutheran, then notify the OEA at oea@CalLutheran.edu.
International Faculty and Academic Department Support
The Office of International Students and Scholars provides immigration and visa support and cultural adjustment resources. Faculty are encouraged to consult with the OISS staff regarding international student cultural adjustment needs, eligibility for international student off-site research/internship/employment, regulatory restriction for non-full-time enrollment, cultural dynamics in the classroom, and more. Classroom Resources
CGE offers classroom presentations for faculty through pre-arranged request or the Cal Lutheran Don’t Cancel Class program. The Office of Education Abroad provides a presentation on study abroad opportunities for students. The Office of International Students and Scholars provides an international student panel presentation regarding specific academic topics and/or general cultural reflections. International Education Week
Faculty are encouraged to offer educational programs (e.g., presentation, panel discussion, film screening, etc.) to support global learning during Cal Lu’s annual International Education Week celebration. An online submission form for funding support is available annually.
Phi Beta Delta Honor Society
To recognize excellence in the field of international education and exchange, Cal Lu is in process of establishing a chapter of the national Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society for Scholars. Membership is inclusive of faculty, staff, and students. Inquiries can be directed to global@CalLutheran.edu.
Fulbright Scholar Application Support
The U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 470 teaching, research, or combined awards in over 125 countries. Traditional extended experience programs are complimented with new shorter and/or more flexible models. Applications are typically due around September each year. An interest workshop is available during International Education Week or by appointment with the Associate Provost. Note: Student Fulbright application support is managed by the Office of Education Abroad.
