Oxford Program

Full Presentation

An Experience of a Lifetime

On the California Lutheran University Oxford Program, you study in small-group tutorials with leaders in a variety of fields from the University of Oxford, one of the world's most prestigious institutions of higher education. You will meet your tutor (also known as a "don") each week for a discussion of a topic and be responsible for organizing your study time. In addition to these tutorials, you have access to the Bodleian Library, one of the world’s most famous research libraries. You reside with other Cal Lutheran students at Balliol College, one of the oldest and most storied divisions of the University. You can go punting on the river, stroll through the beautiful common lands of Port Meadow, and participate in various excursions that will immerse you in British culture and challenge you to grow interculturally.

Oxford University

On the second half of the program in London, our partner institution, CIEE, offers you the opportunity to take either two additional courses or one course and an internship. Your experience includes a guided tour to help you navigate the sprawling city and unscheduled time for you to explore the museums, parks, eateries, churches, and galleries that define the British capital.

Cal Lutheran Support

In addition to your work at Oxford, a Cal Lutheran professor will teach a semester-long course in person while in Oxford and virtually after they return to the United States in the middle of the semester. They will arrange for time to meet with you one-on-one while in Oxford to help ensure you remain successful in your studies.

OEA will work with you to determine which tutorials and courses will help you complete your program requirements at Cal Lutheran. We will arrange required pre-departure meetings with you and the rest of the Oxford cohort several times throughout the preceding spring semester. These meetings will provide important information about your travels, help prepare you for the kind of studying you will be doing at Oxford, and encourage the cohort to start building a unique learning community that supports your personal journey.

Eligibility

Please note that your eligibility to participate in the Program is contingent upon good academic, behavioral, and financial standing. Students with prior judicial records must be cleared by the Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs; any academic misconduct may result in your expulsion from the Program. You also must clear your Student Account by standard payment deadlines.

Finances and Aid

For the Oxford Program, Cal Lutheran will charge you standard tuition and fees, the Grace/Trinity Hall housing rate, the Combo 50 Meal plan, and the Study Abroad Student Fee, all due by the standard Financial Clearance Deadline for fall semester. These charges will cover all accommodations, mandatory excursions, and sponsored events during the program, along with most breakfasts and dinners while in Oxford. Airfare is not included. In London, you will be responsible for your meals and transportation.

You may use your full financial aid package, including internal and external scholarships, with the sole exception of work-study aid.

You may view comprehensive fee information on our Finances page.
