Meet the Team
Katie Costanzo
Katie Costanzo is a Junior History Major and Art History Minor at California Lutheran University. In 2021, she was inducted into the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society and serves as the Treasurer for the History Club at CLU. She plans on entering a doctorate program after college with a focus on Women's History. She enjoys learning about and discussing the Civil War, Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt, and the Cold War. She is currently a part of the “In Your Own Backyard: Civil Liberties Then and Now" project at CLU under the direction of Dr. Michaela Reaves - her duties include drafting biographies of World War Two internees at the Tuna Canyon Detention Station in Tujunga and the women patients of Rockhaven Sanitarium in Glendale.
Nicholas Dilley
Nicholas Dilley is a Senior-year student at California Lutheran University. Majoring in History with an emphasis in Museum Studies, he has worked with the History Department throughout his undergraduate career. In 2020, he was granted a life membership to the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society. Two of his history analysis essays have been published in "The Scribe of the Ages" literary magazine, one of which was presented at Cal Lutheran's "Festival of Scholars" in 2021. He currently works for both the History Department as a Department Assistant, and for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum as an Education Intern. Upon being assigned to the "In Your Own Backyard" grant project, he wrote all of the "Racial Justice" biographies, three more for "Smart Justice" and "Immigrant Rights", and created the website. He is set to graduate in May 2022, after which he intends on pursuing a career in archival/museum work.
Stefan Henning
Stefan Henning is a History and Spanish Major at California Lutheran University. He is currently an administrator of multiple school clubs, and is a proactive member of the Cal Lutheran community. He joined the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society in 2021, the Alpha Mu Gamma National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society in 2021, and the Sigma Delta Pi National Hispanic Honor Society in 2020. Stefan was also a participant in Cal Lutheran's "Festival of Scholars" and had an article published in "The Scribe of Ages" literary magazine. Currently Stefan is working towards his Bachelor's Degrees and is hoping to simultaneously further his career in the United States Army through education and hard work.
Michaela Reaves, Ph. D.
Dr. Reaves earned her History Ph. D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Currently professor at California Lutheran University, she was awarded the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence and published Filling in the Pieces: Women Tell Their Stories of the 20th Century in 2021. Recent grant funding included the Library of America grant on World War I, and two Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation grants supporting the History Lecture Series. Current student collaborations include mapping Cold War fall-out shelters, creating a McCall’s magazine database, and lesson plan collaboration with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The California State Library for the Civil Liberties Public Education Program funds this project.
