The Podcasting and Radio minor was designed to foster the skills necessary to manage and create your own content while following the current legalities of digital media. Students will develop practical experience writing scripts and outlines, pre-production, recording, editing, and post-production. You’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside the student-run radio station, iCLU, and posting content across social media platforms and webpages

Learn how to entertain and inform

Radio and podcasting have become more popular than ever in recent years. To prepare students to work in this ever growing industry, students will learn the necessary skills of how to manage and create personalized content while following the current legalities of digital media.

Gain hands on experience

Through our curriculum, students will pursue skills that will assist in communicating to audiences on many platforms. Students will have access to many opportunities for hands-on experiential learning such as how to produce their own podcast or radio show for our student-run radio station iCLU.

Develop pre-production and post-production skills

Today, it is important to have a diverse knowledge in many communication-based areas and skills. With radio and podcasting, students will create their own media and post content across social media platforms and webpages. Courses for the minor will help students develop practical experience writing scripts and outlines, pre-production, recording, editing, and post-production.

Requirements

Required courses:
  • COMM 332 Podcast Production (4 credits)
  • COMM 334 Radio Production (4 credits)
  • COMM 434 Radio/Podcast Experience-iCLU (2 credits, may take twice)
Choose at least one:
  • COMM 231/Media Writing (4 credits required)
  • COMM 331/Content Creation for Digital Platforms (4 credits)

In addition to the required courses, choose any two Communication courses.

Note: May take COMM 434 a second time to meet one of these requirements.
