Principles of Excellence
On April 27, 2012, the President signed Executive Order 13607, Establishing Principles of Excellence for Educational Institutions Serving Service Members, Veterans, Spouses, and Other Family Members. The published Executive Order is available here. This Executive Order addresses key areas relating to Federal military and veterans educational benefits programs.
California Lutheran University's support for veterans is some of the best work we do as a community, and we are proud to be a voluntary participant in the Principles of Excellence program. Educational institutions participating in the Principles of Excellence program agree to the following guidelines:

How We Comply
Provide students with a personalized form covering the total cost of an education program.
Cal Lutheran provides a Net Price Calculator that is available to all first-time freshmen inclusive of service members, veterans or family members. The calculator provides an approximation of what a student can expect to pay to attend Cal Lutheran. Additional cost for education can be found on the Financial Aid website or by contacting the Financial Aid Office.
Provide educational plans for all military and Veteran education beneficiaries.
Cal Lutheran Student Success Counselors and/or Faculty Advisors will provide you with guidance and assistance when developing your educational plan. Please visit your MyCLU Self-Service under Student Planning to view your Veteran tailored education plan.
End fraudulent and aggressive recruiting techniques and misreppresentations.
Cal Lutheran does not, and has never, conducted fraudulent or aggressive recruiting on or off military installations or in any other venue, nor do we misrepresent ourselves, our programs, or our mission. We do not provide any commission, bonus, or other incentive payment based directly or indirectly upon success in securing enrollments or the award of financial aid to any individual or entity engaged in any recruiting or admission activities or in making decisions about awarding FSA program funds. We meet all requirements consistent with those issued by the Department of Education.
Accommodate Service members and Reservists absent due to service requirements.
Students will be granted an extended leave of absence of up to 12 months when assigned to compulsory duties. Students should notify their advisors and the Cal Lutheran registrar office of their plans as soon as possible. Click here to request a leave of absence and submit the completed form to the registrar office. Reservists and active duty must show proof by providing orders or a letter from a commanding officer.

Ensure accreditation of all new programs prior to enrolling students.
The University's accrediting agency, The Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) ensures that our institution has the capacity and educational effectiveness to sustain itself.. The University adheres to the guides provided by the WSCUSC Steering Committee.
Align institutional refund policies with those under Title IV, which governs the administration of federal student aid programs.
Federal aid covered by the Return of Funds policies includes the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Subsidized Stafford Loan, and Pell Grants. Students who receive federal aid are subject to federal return of funds policies. Students are eligible for a percentage of the aid equal to the percentage of the period completed.
