Policies
Emergency Response and Evacuation Procedures
Emergency vehicles
You are required to yield and pull over for any vehicle exhibiting flashing emergency lights, including Campus Safety Vehicles. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.
Identifying Yourself to Campus Officials
When requested to do so, you are required to properly identify yourself to any Campus Official, including Resident Assistants, Resident Directors and Campus Safety Officers. Failure or refusal to do so may result in disciplinary action.
Individual Responsibility
Every student must bear an appropriate amount of individual responsibility for their own safety and security, and that of their fellow students. To this end, please observe the following guidelines:
- Report all crimes immediately. Prompt reporting may assist in apprehension, and prevention of future crimes. CALL x3911.
- Report all suspicious persons and circumstances. This may prevent a crime from occurring. CALL x3911.
- Lock your doors and windows, even if you'll only be gone "a little while." It doesn't take long for a thief to walk in, take what he wants and walk out unnoticed.
- Don't prop open or try to defeat the security features of any exterior Residence hall doors. If you find such a door propped open, please close it. If it won't lock, please notify the Resident Director or Resident Assistant - or call Security at ext. 3911.
- Adequately secure any property left outside, such as bicycles. Bicycle theft is one of the more common crimes which occur on campus every year.
- If you must walk across campus late at night, consider going with a friend or two. Thousand Oaks is one of the safest cities in the country, but that doesn't mean crimes never occur here. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security because of the peaceful surroundings.
Law Enforcement Agencies
Campus Safety has an excellent working relationship and cooperates fully with the Ventura County Sheriff/Thousand Oaks Police Department. Police Officials may enter the campus at any time for any reason, including enforcement of traffic and parking laws, or entering the Residence Halls to conduct official business.
Littering and Vandalism
Please help keep your campus clean! Students who are found to be responsible for littering or vandalism in or around the campus will be fined and charged for the cost of clean-up or repair. Flagrant incidents may also result in disciplinary action.
Lost and Found
To check on lost items of personal property, or to turn in found items, please call the Campus Safety main line, x3208. An Officer will return your call soon.
North Campus
Mt. Clef Ridge (the hill with the white rock CLU letters on it) and the open fields are off limits to student vehicles at all times. There are many reasons for this, primarily your safety and protection of local plants and animals. Non-compliance with this policy may result in fines and disciplinary action.
