About
Micah Wright received his degrees in clarinet performance from USC (D.M.A.), Rice University (M.M.), and Drake University (B.M.), while also completing performance minors in saxophone (Drake University) and piano (USC). Dr. Wright is an active freelance musician in the Los Angeles area, performing in solo, chamber, studio, and orchestral settings. He also maintains a private studio, teaches clinics and masterclasses throughout the Southwest, and is a D’Addario Woodwinds performing artist.
Micah has received many national and international musical honors throughout his career, most recently winning the 2018 Beverly Hills National Auditions, 2nd Prize at the 2017 Backun International Clarinet Competition, Honorable Mention at the 2017 William C. Byrd International Young Artists Competition, winning the 2016 Frances Walton Competition, and winning the 2016 MTNA California Young Artist Woodwind Competition. Micah has performed as a concerto soloist with several ensembles including Rice University’s Shepherd School Symphony, Drake University’s Symphony Orchestra, the Masterworks Festival Orchestra, the Meyer Chamber Orchestra, the Des Moines Metro Concert Band, and the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Micah’s main clarinet teachers during his collegiate study were Michele Zukovsky (USC), Yehuda Gilad (USC), Richie Hawley (Rice University), Dr. Michael Webster (Rice University), Clarence Padilla (Drake University), and Joyce Wheeler (Drake University). Micah also studied saxophone with Dr. Jim Romain (Drake University) and piano with Bernadene Blaha (USC), Dr. Ted Reuter, and Dr. Chiu-Ling Lin.
