About
Fredric Beerstein, oboe instructor at California Lutheran University, is a member of the New West Symphony, as well as the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, and the Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra. From 1984 to 1994 he was the principal oboe of the Bakersfield Symphony. Other professional experiences include Los Angeles film and commercial recording as well as performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. Teaching experience includes 17 seasons at the Summer Program of the Idyllwild Arts Academy, Bocal Majority/Operation oboe Summer Camps and a large private studio.
Mr. Beerstein’s major teachers on the oboe were William Criss (Met Opera), Allan Vogel (LA Chamber Orchestra), and John Ellis (LA/ Hollywood movie studios). Other studies include six seasons at the Aspen Music Festival including an oboe fellowship and two seasons at the Texas Festival Orchestra at Round Top. Teachers were John de Lancie, Richard Killmer, Marion Gibson, and Philip West.
