My Fifty and Better Story
Submitted by Ruth Buono
As a lifelong learner, I really enjoy the courses and lectures FAB offers. I have learned so much from Katherine Zoraster (art history), Christine Maasdam (art history & art crime), Dr. Jason Hensley (religion and history), and Dr. Mary Oksala (astronomy) among many other faculty. FAB was the first in the area to pivot to virtual classes in March 2020. I am appreciative that the program continues to offer virtual courses and lectures to accommodate those living near and far. I am also glad to see that the program is beginning to offer more in-person opportunities, from their watch parties, to classes that can be attended in-person or virtually, and events like FAB Nights at the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival. I am also impressed that FAB offers programming year-round, and is mixing independent and 2-part lectures with 4-week and 6-week long courses. They even offer some free lectures. And they will start some book clubs and interest groups soon! One of the things that separates FAB from other similar programs is the stellar support they offer their students; it is clear they really care about us. All of this makes me proud to serve on the Advisory Committee and I look forward to seeing how the next chapter in FAB’s story unfolds.
