Teaching in the Fifty and Better (FAB) program
Submitted by David Parsons
The courses I’ve taught in the FAB program have been some of the most fun and rewarding experiences of my teaching career. My courses focus mostly on 20th century American history, a subject that often intersects directly with the lives of students, sometimes in surprising ways. A lecture about the Vietnam War, for example, can turn into a conversation based on first-hand memories and insights shared with the group. It’s rare to have an opportunity to think about history in such a dynamic, personal way, and it’s those kinds of moments that makes FAB such a unique and valuable program.
