Fifty and Better Student/Lifelong Learner
Submitted by Jan Bender
I had belonged to a learning in retirement organization before moving to Camarillo in 2020, so when my new friend told me about FAB during the pandemic, I thought I would give it a try as a replacement activity. I am generally interested in art and music, but I am also interested in getting educated on some science topics. It was fascinating to learn about the chemical and physical processes of global warming (without getting into the politics of it) and most recently to learn how the James Webb Space Telescope is going to unfold the universe for us. All the classes I have taken have been with outstanding presenters who really know their subjects, so that makes me eager to return for more classes. The classes and topics offered are varied and there is always something that appeals to me. My most stunning memory is about the James Webb Space Telescope, which will be able to see back into the early stages of the universe, and possibly see the death throes of the first stars. Speaker Christopher Mick showed an animation of how the telescope unfolded itself once it arrived at its destination. Truly, it was awesome!
