Fifty and Better Brought a Little Bit of Joy to My Life
Submitted by Adele Enright
FAB offers interesting, high quality classes and lectures. The instructors are subject experts and they are interested in teaching their topics. The instructors are well prepared and they provide good visuals (PowerPoints) to go with their lectures. Plus, a big plus for seniors is the cost is just right. The lecture and course offerings are in subject matters that interest me. Namely, Art History, History, and Current Events. I also enjoyed the virtual JPL tour. The six-lecture series on Van Gogh and his influences is my favorite class. In fact, it is my absolute favorite of all the Art History classes I have taken. That includes Art History classes taken for my B.A. and M.A. Plus who doesn’t like Van Gogh? His art is very accessible to most everyone, and Professor Katherine Zoraster illuminated his life and art even more than ever. Plus, it is a rare occurrence to take an entire lecture series on one artist. Usually you study art movements, time periods, or art by medium. The only thing better is seeing Van Gogh’s works in person as I have done. He is an artist you don’t get tired of. After Katherine’s class I wanted to go and see the places where he lived and worked and to visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. I realize everyone has a heart-rending story of how they survived the Pandemic with lives lost that were so dear to us. For me, part of my story is that FAB brought a little bit of joy to my life as I made my way as a recent widow riding out the Pandemic while caring for my elderly mother who has dementia and my concern for two family members who went through cancer surgeries and treatments. Lastly, but most importantly, THANK YOU! Thank you for offering these lectures on Zoom. I live in Orange County and wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise. Thank you for making these educational classes and lectures available to FAB Zoom students.
