In 1964 the Athletic Director mentioned that a golf team was forming and that Rolf Olsen and I would be scheduled to play in the southern calif. intercollegiate championships in Lompoc. This came about when i spoke to his father, Dr. Olsen, about forming a golf team and of course that his son, Rolf, played golf as well. I think that swayed him. Rolf and had fun in the three day event though neither of us did well.
The next year (1965) we had a full team and I was chosen as captain of the 1st golf team at clc. I was also asked to assist in teaching golf as an athletic unit.
Thanks to a two unit class in astronomy I was able to use it to my advantage as a navy lieutenant and chief navigator aboard a ship home ported in Long Beach. We made a six month tour in support of the U.S. marines while off shore in Vietnam. Prior to ship duty I spent a year in country Vietnam as an advisor to the Vietnamese navy “junk force”. That year between April 1967 and April 1968 I shall never forget.
Presently I am living in Conover, NC on a 36 hole golf and country club called rock barn. My home is 50 yards overlooking the 1st green.
