Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals
Submitted by Leslie Felding
Twelve years ago, I started my second career as an adjunct faculty member in the MBA program at Cal Lutheran. I found the campus, the students, and the classroom experience rewarding. A couple years later I had the opportunity to teach in a different program; one that has evolved into the ‘Bachelor’s Degree for Professionals’. I attended a similar program to earn my degree and found the Professional’s program relatable. The discussions and exercises in class explored theory and connected it to their real-life work experience. Several students said, “I learn it tonight and apply it at work tomorrow”. To be my best, I attend faculty training sessions and have met many great people in the process.
Over the last year, I have seen the level of collaboration and cooperation grow among students. The pandemic fed tension and stress as students worried about their health, family, and their jobs. Rather than dropping classes to relieve any extra pressure, students worked hard to stay on top of their assignments. They may not have planned to be in a virtual class, yet they powered through it. I read poignant stories and watched the interaction in class. I saw so much kindness and encouragement among the students, it moved me. “Stronger Together” was never more evident in our students. What a treat to have found another satisfying and joyful career in this chapter of my life.
