Graduating senior, Meagan Toumayan, has made the most out of her time at Cal Lu. Read all about her amazing journey!
“My name is Meagan Toumayan, and this year I am graduating with a Double Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing and Political Science. During my time at Cal Lutheran, I participated in the Lutheran College Washington Semester program and the CLU Oxford program.
One of the main reasons I decided to go to Cal Lutheran was because of their programs abroad. I wanted to see the political landscapes of different parts of our world through the lenses of various experts in their field. Interning with Congressmen John Garamendi, in Washington, D.C., while taking courses through LCWS allowed me to witness our country’s politics firsthand. In Oxford, taking courses with the university’s dons helped strengthen my CLU academic knowledge. The way Dr. Michael Brint guides and structures the Oxford program made the experience authentic and gave me perspective on the world outside the United States. His commitment to education truly defined my time at Cal Lutheran, and I will never forget exploring Europe and the Mediterranean with my fellow Oxford ‘18 alums. These programs refined and cultivated my goals. I now know I want to focus on issues regarding Refugees and Forced Migrants from Middle Eastern and Eurasian diasporas in my writing.
Next year, I will be attending The University of Chicago for their Master of Arts Program in the Humanities with a focus in Creative Writing. If I had not gone abroad, I do not think I would feel as prepared or as excited about my next chapter in higher education. If you have the opportunity to go, go! I loved my time abroad and will cherish it forever.”
