Charles and Sandra Brown ’70
Service to Alma Mater
Charles ’68 and Sandra ’70 Brown were honored with the Service to Alma Mater Award for their commitment and dedication to the University. Sandra graduated cum laude from CLU with a bachelor’s degree in music and Spanish. She completed her master’s degree in education with an emphasis in music in 1980 and, in 1994, taught middle school courses in foreign language in Sioux Falls, S.D. Charlie graduated from CLU with a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama. He is the vice president for Administration and Finance in Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
As a student, Sandra received many scholastic honors. As an alumnus, she has participated on the Alumni Board, Arch Committee, Awards and Honors Committee and other alumni activities. As a student, Charlie was a member of the CLU gold team and participated in drama productions on-and-off-stage. As an alumnus, he has served as the advisor for the Alumni Scholarship Committee and as a volunteer for various alumni activities.
Charlie and Sandra have seen the University grow from a small college of 850 students. As an administrator, Charlie was instrumental in the development of numerous activities including the first parents program, a $2 million campaign to develop the curriculum for the Administration of Justice major, a data processing system and telecommunications network for the campus and an intercultural program for CLU students and students from Scandinavian countries.
