"Bring Your Own Brigade" film screening

The Woolsey Fire ravished portions of Ventura and LA counties in 2018, burning all around Thousand Oaks and down to the Malibu coast. Simultaneously, the Camp Fire - the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in CA history - was burning in Butte County and devastating the town of Paradise, California. Both fires began on Nov. 8, 2018. Documentary filmmaker Lucy Walker has made a critically-acclaimed film that focuses in on these two fires as she drills deep into the politics, economics, and ecology of wildfire. Walker chronicles the two fires while interrogating narratives surrounding the increase in wildfire in California and around the world.

Lucy Walker is a celebrated documentary filmmaker with numerous awards to her credit, including Academy Awards nominations for her films, “Waste Land” (2010) and “The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom” (2011). “Bring Your Own Brigade” was as Sundance Film Festival Official Selection and was named to the New York Times top 10 movie list for 2021.The film is R-rated, due to some strong language.

Please join the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the university in welcoming Director Lucy Walker to campus for a screening of the film followed by a short reflection and response with Lucy following the screening.

Film Screening takes place 6:30-8:30 p.m., post-film discussion with Director Lucy Walker is 8:30-9:15 p.m.
