Founders Day Lecture

The Rev. James Wetzstein

Founders Day Lecture

For the Founders Day Lecture, keynote speaker the Rev. James Wetzstein, PhD candidate in liturgical theology, will present "The Thought and Legacy of Ernst Schwidder, Liturgical Artist."

Wetzstein, university pastor at Valparaiso University, will explore the deeply theological work of sculptor Ernst Schwidder, whose art adorns numerous worship spaces across North America, including Cal Lutheran's Samuelson Chapel. Wetzstein’s PhD research delves into Schwidder's ability to communicate theology through visual art, making this lecture a unique opportunity to learn about the intersections of faith, art and community.

Admission is free. The Founders Day Lecture also will be livestreamed at CalLutheran.edu/live.
