English Proficiency for International Applicants

International undergraduate and graduate applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency as part of their application for admission.  Proficiency can be demonstrated in any of the following ways for each of type of application to CLU.

English Proficiency Requirements for Direct Admission


English Language Conditional Admission

Students who do not meet any of the above direct admission requirements may be considered for English Language Conditional Admission. This may be offered to students who meet all other academic requirements. If offered they will be required to complete an approved intensive English language program.

To apply for English language conditional admission students should:

  1. Complete an application for admission
  2. Submit all academic transcripts, recommendation letters and other required documents
  3. Email intladmission@callutheran.edu with your intention to be considered for conditional admission, without an English language exam.


Oxford International Digital Institute’s English for Academic Purposes Online (OIDI EAP)

OIDIThe Oxford International Digital Institute EAP course provides students with English language training from anywhere in the world. Students can join classes from their home country before traveling to the U.S.   Students who complete Level 7 will be fully admitted to the university.

ELS Language Centers

ELSELS offers in-person intensive English language courses at centers in California and throughout the U.S. Students interested in studying at an ELS Language Center should apply for admission directly to ELS. Accepted students will apply for an F-1 visa through ELS. Upon completion of Level 112 you will be offered admission and we will transfer your I-20 to CLU for the continuation of your studies.
